Before you print
- Dark code on a light background. Phones look for dark squares on a light ground, and some cannot read a light code on a dark one.
- Keep the empty border. The margin around the code is part of it: do not crop it or print into it. The PNG and SVG from here include it.
- Size it for the distance. Place the SVG 36 mm wide on a business card, so the code is at least 25 mm. On a sign, make it a tenth of the distance: 30 cm to scan from 3 m, the SVG 42 cm wide.
- Keep a card-size contact code plain. Leave the logo off, leave the address and note out, and use Square, Soft or Leaf corners.
- Send the SVG to a print shop. It stays sharp at any size. The PNG is for email and office printers.
- Scan a test print first. Print one at the real size and scan it with an iPhone and an Android before you print more.

Does my code expire?
No. There is nothing on our side to expire. A code made here holds your link, contact details, or network name in the pattern itself, with nothing in between that could be switched off. It keeps working as long as what it points to does: the website stays up, the Wi-Fi password stays the same.
Can I change where it points after I print it?
Not with a free code. The destination is part of the pattern, so a new destination means a new code. If you need to change it after printing, that is what the Changeable Code add-on is for: its code points at a short link we can re-point. It is coming soon.
Do you track scans?
We cannot track a free code or the codes in our Static and Card Packs. Nothing we put in them lets anyone else do it. Each one holds its own content, such as your link, contact details, or network name, so a phone goes straight there with nothing in between to count the scan. A website it opens sees an ordinary visit, the same as from a typed link. The Changeable Code add-on (coming soon) is the one exception: its code points at our short link. Before it goes on sale we will say here exactly what that link records, and it will never set cookies or record who scanned.
What you type into the generator, and any logo you add, stays in your browser. We only see what you send in the order form, if you order a pack.
